Dear Room 114 Families, December 12, 2016
Notes and Reminders:
-Please make sure to dress your child for the cold weather. Per Ray’s handbook we can go outside as long as the wind chill is not below 15. Many students are without gloves and complaining of cold hands.
-We will make gingerbread houses on Thursday, December 22nd at 1:45. We need lots of volunteers for this activity so please considering coming to Ray and joining all the messy fun.
-Last week students were to finish their Friday letter at home. Please make sure your child does this. Also discuss with them handwriting, sentence structure and sounding out words.
This week we will read Gingerbread Pirates. Students will come up with an action plan to save the characters and discuss perseverance.
Sight Words: them, these, so, some, her
Vocabulary: captain, swish, nibble, astonish, enormous
The students will continue with How-To writing. They will focus on adding more detail to their steps and acting out their books to identify missing components.
This week we will work with sums of 10 focusing on +0, +1 and doubles. We will also begin to add 3 numbers together, learning different strategies to do so.
SCIENCE/ SOCIAL SCIENCE
In Science we will continue a unit on Light and Sound. We will make Kazoos and continue to practice with vibrations. In Social Science we will continue with our family traditions unit. We are reading Festival of Lights and learning about the different winter celebrations around the world. We are still working on putting together the family traditions book.
Have a great week!
