Dear Room 114 Families, February 27, 2017
Reminders for the week.
-Please let me know if you did not receive your email invitation from shutterfly for the class photos. The email was sent to every family so make sure to check your junk folder as well.
THIS WEEK IN:
Students received a new list of words this week and are completing sorting activities throughout the week during Daily 5 to prepare for their spelling test on Friday. Sort and Write, Word Hunt and Speed Sort.
Sight Words: who, what, where, why, when
Vocabulary: bargain, spoiled, savings, hardship
This week we will read A Chair for My Mother. Students will discuss the small moments found in the story and learn about how one family continued to work hard through difficult times.
This week we work on adding introductions and a table of contents to our all about books.
In Math, we will continue to add sums of 10. Students really enjoyed playing Go Fishing for 10. Just like Go Fish except instead of asking for a match you ask for a match to your card that would equal 10. For example if I have a three I would ask someone for a 7. We played this using the 0-10 cards. Students will also learn about all the different ways we can represent a number, discussing equivalences.
Sound and Light, Oh My! This week we will continue natural and man-made sources of light. We will watch a video on Light. Our next experiment requires a sunny day so hopefully these clouds clear up.
This week we will be sharing our black history reports. The students did a great job and are having a lot of fun reading the reports and learning more about these important people.
