Dear Room 114 Families,                                                                               March 20, 2017

There are several notes/reminders for the week.

  • Ray is doing a food drive.  Please send in any non-perishable food you would like to donate.
  • Please make sure your child completes their Friday letter at home.  Students have ten minutes in the morning to begin them but many do not finish in this time.  Encourage them to write with lots of details and ask them questions about their week if they are stuck.

THIS WEEK IN: 
WORD STUDY
Students received a new list of words and are completing sorting activities throughout the week during Daily 5 to prepare for their spelling test on Friday. Sort and Write, Word Hunt and Speed Sort.

Vocabulary:     stubby, reason, occasional, settle

READER’S WORKSHOP
This week we will read The Days the Crayons Quit.  Students will write opinion pieces on their favorite crayon.

WRITER’S WORKSHOP
This week we begin opinion writing.  Students will do their first piece, The Best Part of Me.  They will also begin working on their own opinion selection.

MATH
In Math, we will learn about shape attributes and continue to work with fact families.

SCIENCE
Sound and Light, Oh My!  This week we will continue to learn about light.  We will do more with reflections and look at light boxes.

SOCIAL STUDIES
This week we continue to work on then and now.   We will focus on clothing and food.  If you are interested in coming in for a quick then and now interview please let me know.  This week information will be sent home on our women in history project.
