  • Please submit the $14.50 payment and field trip form for our trip to the CSO, scheduled on December 1st. Thanks so much to the families who have contributed extra $ for students in need.  Students will  need to bring a lunch from home.
  • Please send a healthy snack in for 25 children. We welcome donations of bananas, cuties, apples and grapes. Please try to send gluten free and peanut free snacks to accommodate our students with allergies.
  • Would you like to come in and share your family’s holiday tradition? Please send me an email if you are interested in sharing artifacts or foods that are unique to your family during the winter season.

READER’S WORKSHOP/Daily 5

This week we will read The Dot. We will identify story elements such as characters, setting, character development and author’s purpose. We will use the book to make predictions and inferences. Students will continue to identify character traits that support a growth mind set and perseverance.

WRITER’S WORKSHOP

We will continue working on unit 2 in writing. We are still working on small moment writing, focusing on one moment during an event.   Students will finish up their narrative stories with attention on adding feelings and making sure the reader can answer who, what, where, why and when. At the end of the week, students will publish and submit a piece of writing to turn in as an assessment.

MATH

This week, we will learn the frames and arrows routine. We will start our math message mini-books. These books will provide a warm-up and entry point into the daily lesson. Students will also practice adding using the number grid. Students will also practice skip counting and adding on using the calculators.  We will take the unit 3 assessment on Friday.

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE

We will discuss family traditions. We will read a Time for Kids: Animal Helpers. We will also focus on birthday traditions.  In science we will make a table fiddle and book fiddle and learn more about how vibrations create sound. We will make a drop chamber and practice identifying sounds of various objects.
