  • Please sign up for a slot at report card pickup using the following link http://signup.com/go/gdKHgBb. Report card pick up is scheduled Wednesday, November 15, 2017, from 12pm-6pm. If you cannot make any of the times listed, please contact me and we can schedule an alternative time.
  • Please provide a healthy snack for 25 students if you have not done so…or it’s been a while. Thank you to all of the families that have contributed. This month is students with last names ending in A-K.
  • As a reminder, we celebrate birthdays with healthy snacks or treat bags students can take home. We celebrate birthdays on the last Friday of the month.

READER’S WORKSHOP/Daily 5

This week we will read Stand Tall Molly Lou Melon. We will identify story elements such as characters, setting, character development and author’s purpose. We will use the book to make predictions and inferences. Students will be assessed on their understanding of these concepts using a 3 prompt open response assessment at the end of the week. This quarter our books of the week will focus on the growth mind set and perseverance.

WRITER’S WORKSHOP

We will continue working on unit 2 in writing. This unit continues to focus on narrative writing with an emphasis on the writing process. Last week we planned our writing and this week we will add details to the beginning, middle and end. Students will use this process to write at least three stories before the unit’s end.

MATH

This week, we will continue to work on number stories. Students will use the number line to practice adding and subtracting and skip counting. We will play Roll and Total, Domino Top-It and High Roller.

SCIENCE

We will wrap up our unit on Patterns in the Sky. We will read How Many Stars in the Sky?We will begin our next unit on Sound and Light.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We will read our first edition of Time Magazine and learn about Veterans Day. We will start to discuss family traditions.
