  • Please send a healthy snackin for 25 children. We welcome donations of bananas, cuties, apples and grapes. Please try to send gluten free and peanut free snacks to accommodate our students with allergies.  This month last names with K-Z should donate.  A special thanks to the families that donate every month to snack, even when it is not their month!!
  • Would you like to come in and share your family’s holiday tradition? Please send me an email if you are interested in sharing artifacts or foods that are unique to your family during the winter season. I would like to schedule families to share at the end of the day (3pm?)
  • Mark your calendars for Thursday, December 21st @ 2.  We will be making gingerbread houses.  We will need lots of volunteers for this activity.  A letter will go home next week asking for donations to the project.
  • The students will perform in a holiday assembly on Thursday, December 21st. We included it on the calendar but I am not sure this is open to families.  Last year it was just for the students but I will let you know as I learn more.

This week we will read Ada Twist Scientist. We will identify story elements such as characters, setting, character development and author’s purpose. We will use the book to make predictions and inferences. Students will continue to identify character traits that support a growth mind set and perseverance. We will read the companion book Rosie Revere Engineer and Iggy Peck, Architect later in the week.

Sight Words: how, out, them, then, many

Vocabulary Words: quivered, drifted, pungent, rattled gawk

We will start How-To writing this week. Students will assist in a shared writing activity to write about making trail mix. In the coming weeks students will write step by step directions for things they know how to do.

This week, we will start unit 4 and take the unit 3 assessment. Students will begin to learn about measurement and how objects compare in length. Students will learn about using a common object for measurement, starting at the end of an object to measure and making estimations about measuring.

We will discuss family traditions. We will read Some Birthday and discuss birthday traditions . In science we will make a table fiddle and book fiddle and learn more about how vibrations create sound. We will make a drop chamber and practice identifying sounds of various objects.
