Ray School’s Annual Walk-A-Thon will take place Friday, May 18th! Our fundraising goal is $30,000 and we can do it! If you’d like to help with the planning, please email annerenna@mac.com.
    • Lost & Found: Every Friday after school, the Lost & Found bins by the cafeteria will be emptied in order to keep the school clean. If your child is missing an item, please direct him/her to check the bins weekly!
    • Parent Portal: If you are interested in having access to Parent Portal, please call the main office and they will provide you with your pin and login information.

READER’S WORKSHOP/Daily 5
This week we will read Emmanuel’s Dream. This quarter first graders will hear many stories that feature diverse characters. We will identify story elements such as characters, setting, character development and author’s purpose. We will use the book to make predictions and inferences. Students will continue to identify character traits that support a growth mind set and perseverance. This week students will compare themselves to the main character in the story and focus on things they CAN do. We will learn about -ar controlled words. We will review ABC order.

Vocabulary: useless, disability, insult, astounding, boarded, fetch

WRITER’S WORKSHOP
We are continuing opinion writing this week. Our focus this week will be using transition words, learning about common and proper nouns and writing a complete paragraph.

MATH
This week, we will finish the unit 6 assessment. We will start unit 7 which focuses on fact families (relationships between addition and subtraction facts). We will use fact triangles and dominoes to identify fact families. We will practice more with base 10 blocks and place value.

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE
In science we will continue with the second part of the science unit on sound and light. Students will explore light and mirrors and discuss how light can be reflected to a new position. We will learn about Misty Copeland, Malala Yousafzai and Helen Delaney Martini.
