Notes and Reminders:

  • Walk-a-Thon Please register at http://rayschool.dojiggy.comand begin fundraising.  Students that have raised $5 by Thursday evening will have a special treat on Friday
  • The mattress sale in Saturday, May 5th in the school cafeteria.
  • We are running low on glue stick and black dry erase markers.  Any donation are greatly appreciated.
  • International Night is this Wednesday beginning at 5:30. Additional information is in homework folders.

READER’S WORKSHOP/Daily 5

This week we will read versions of Little Red Riding Hood. We will compare and contrast the various texts and look at common themes in multiple texts. This quarter first graders will hear weekly books that come author or genre studies. We will explore the writing of other authors including Jannell Cannon and Tomie dePaola. We will also explore variations of some traditional fairy tales including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the BeanstalkThe Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

Sight Words: We will be reviewing ar, er, ir and or words

MATH

This week, we will continue unit 8 in math. This unit focuses more on shapes, including 3-D shapes and exposes students to equal parts (halves and fourths) and the whole. This week we will begin to look at the 3-D shapes, tell time to the half hour and collect data on a bar graph.

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE

In science, we will observe our grass seeds and plant wheat. In social science, we will review wants vs. needs.
