  • We have a field trip tomorrow, January 15th.  All students should bring a lunch from home. We will be eating when we return to school.

  • Please make sure your child is dressed for winter weather.  Many students are coming to school without boots or gloves.

READER’S WORKSHOP/Daily 5

This week we will read Brave Irene by William Steig. We will identify story elements such as characters, setting, character development and author’s purpose. We will use the book to make predictions and inferences. Students will continue to identify character traits that support a growth mindset and perseverance. We will enjoy additional William Steig books this week including Dr. DeSoto and Sylvester and the Magic Pebble. We will review ABC order and antonyms.

Vocabulary: Advise, aristocrat, ceased, cherish, meddle, radiant, pounce

Sight Words: Been, who, now, people

WRITER’S WORKSHOP

This week we will continue How To writing.  Students will create trail mix and write how to make it.  They will also create other how to books on topics they are an “expert” on.

MATH

This week, we will continue working on  unit 5 in math. We will learn more about place value and discuss true and false.  We will continue to focus on what the equal sign means when comparing groups on numbers and equations.

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE

We will learn about map keys and create maps of our classroom and playground.  In science we will learn about pitch. We will also read books about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
