-We have a field trip tomorrow, January 29th .  All students should bring a lunch from home.

-I will be out recovering from surgery February 4th- 11th. There is a chance I will be able to return on the 10th but have sub coverage for the full week. I will be checking in with Ms. Begum to see how the students are doing. I am very fortunate to have such a wonderful class so I don’t anticipate many disruptions. I am sending home a homework pack to be completed during the time I am gone. All packets will go home next Monday and can be returned on February 12th. I want to keep the homework routine in place but do not want to add extra work for the sub.

-Have you bought your tickets for “Raise a Glass for Ray” at The Promontory on January 30th? Please visit the Ray School website to learn more. This is a great even supporting Ray School.  Please join us.

-Please make sure your child is dressed for winter weather.  Many students are coming to school without boots or gloves.
This week we will complete an author study on Ezra Jack Keats. We will discuss character traits and themes in his writing.
Vocabulary: whirled, scrambled, raced, errand, carton
This week we will continue How To writing.  They will also create other how to books on topics they are an “expert” on. We are putting more emphasis on spelling words correctly, punctuation and improving our handwriting.
This week, we will continue working on  unit 5 in math. We will learn more about place value and discuss true and false.  Place value can be very challenging so I am slowing down the pace of this unit.
In science we will compare sounds in our environment. We are studying Maya Angelou and Jean-Michel Basquait. We will focus on their collaboration in the book Life Doesn’t Frighten Me. The students work from this study will be on display outside our room during the Black History event on February 12th.
